Ultimate summer reading list

6/13/2015

At this time each year, schools start publishing their summer reading lists. These well-intended recommendations are to encourage students to read a variety of texts. Some parents probably appreciate this guidance, not knowing which books are appropriate both for content or reading level. The problem is, no single list can possibly match up the right books with the right readers. Furthermore, students spend ten months out of the year being told what to read: which genre, which level, which novel, which author, etc. When Mr. George from the Cornelius public library comes to talk to our students about their summer reading program, he encourages them to read anything: books, blogs, newspapers, magazines, websites, etc. With that in mind, Robin Williams, Sara Kay Mooney and I came up with what we think is the ultimate summer reading list. Read what you want, kids! Just read! (And have your families tweet your reading this summer to #CMSreads).
